Travel has given me some unforgettable experiences—like the time I crossed from Egypt into Israel at the Taba border. A 5'1" female Israeli soldier, fully geared with an automatic rifle, stopped me for questioning. Despite being British-born and of Indian heritage, she wasn’t convinced.

"You don’t look Indian, " she said, eyeing me suspiciously.🙈

Maybe it was my height, fair skin, and strong build—features that, in the wrong place at the wrong time, could apparently raise questions about my identity. Given the region’s history and security concerns, I might have looked like I belonged to just about any Middle Eastern background—or, worse, an organisation on their watchlist. 👀😳

Cue an impromptu history lesson on migration patterns, invasions, and why Indians don’t all fit a single mold. A few confused looks later, she gave up and waved me through. Just another day of international travel!🫡
